This second part of article will be the continuation of intalling XP on your Acer laptop. In part 1, we have discussed on how to successfully get Windows XP installed. This part, we will discuss about installing the proper device drivers into it.

These drivers are also compatible to Windows XP.
VGA Driver

then select “Wireless Lan Driver 802bg Broadcom Ver.4.100.15.5V4.0”The following drivers of the Resource CD are compatible to windows XP: AHCI, Chipset, LAN, Touchpad, Card Reader and Modem.
Download the following drivers above and install them accordingly. You may use back the driver CD (designed for Vista only) provided along with your laptop for the list of device stated above for your Windows XP.
Note that official Wireless Adapter driver for Aspire 4310 from Acer website simply don’t work. One thing to note is that you will have problem installing your Wireless Adapter Driver. You will need to manually select the driver in the wizard. Before doing it, you can try using the installer that comes along it inside the download. (If you have successfully installed Wifi driver, the Wifi button on your keyboard will start blink-blink!!) Cheers~

I’ve been bugged with the broadcom 802.11g wlan driver problem for windows XP for sometime now and I just successfully installed a working wlan driver for my acer aspire 4310 running a windows XP OS.
Try downloading the wlan driver installer from here:

Running the downloaded application will extract setup files for the wlan driver installer. You won’t necessarily need to install these things.Before anything else, make sure that you have all previously installed wlan drivers uninstalled. Now, on the Device Manager, right-click on the Broadcom 802.11g Network Controller and select “Update Driver”. When prompted on what you want the wizard to do, choose “Install from a list or a specific location”. Next, tick on the “Dont search, I will choose the driver to install” radio button and click on next. Next, click on the “Have Disk” button. Again click on the Browse button and look for bcmwl5.inf from the extract directory of the wlan driver installer. Click on OK. I chose Broadcom 802.11a/b/g WLAN from the Network Adapter list displayed and clicked on Next. Ignore what message is displayed by clicking on the “Yes” button. From there, you should be all set.

First of all for all the info.All the driver installation works for my laptops except the audio.It states “Realtek HD audio setup failure”.I tried other versions too but still can’t.Please help?

which laptop model you are having? for 4310, i tested ok… i didnt test on 4710 though….
it’s 4310 on windows xp sp2.
Thanks god i can install it now.After reformating lol.I think the problem exist becouse i let windows to install the driver at the first place.Should have read the readme in the realtek folder thou.

I install my Winxp HE (Sp1 original) on my new Acer 4710. Drivers was install all install after tweaks. Now I can shut down the notebook or restart. After windows complete the “saving” and proceed to shutdown, the notebook forze! Except I can shutdown pressing the power button. Can anyone help me? Do I need to update the windows? My older notebooks works fine. All this problem started after I download the drivers.

Well, I not sure whats the root of your problem but getting XP Service Pack 2 is highly recommended. Cheers~~
Please i need your advise.
I have successfully installed the Win XP SP2 at my Acer Aspire 4310. However, everytime it shutdows my notebook always hangs. I need to remove first the battery pack before it will power off.

make sure you have installed inf update (chipset drivers)

First of all a BIG thank you to all you guy
s. It has been a real headache for me for the past two days.
It’s about my Acer Aspire 4710z. The wireless adapter has been creating problem. Broadcom 802.11g Wireless Network adapter refuse most of the drivers that I could get my hand on either from resource disk (I don’t quite trust it anymore). as well as from various sites.
My lucky break came when Google search brought me to this site. From then on I tried the Acer ph, where I finally solved my problem. THANKS AGAIN YOU GREAT GUYS. (I wander why our ACER M’sia doesn’t have all those drivers …
with that provided audio drivers also i m not able to install for my acer 4710!!!!

sorry.. the links in this post for 4310 and not tested on 4710… please try searching in some other place… i dun hav a 4710 to experiment on at the moment so I can’t help… good luck
Even with the 4710 Win XP audio driver it says setup failure.. Is there any other audio driver that suits acer
well, and to think i was going to destry the 4315 that i have … i have been told that the only difference between the two is a ‘card reader’
anyways, as soon as i get my original xp back i will try to install it…. i wiped out vista in return for fedora 6 ( i hate vista ) but you seem to have enough info here for me to be getting on with so thank you very much

try going into safe mode, uninstall the driver first.. we will see how after u get manage to boot back into windows

Hello there, try read my article here on how to load ACHI driver into your XP installation disc.
Or you may want to change the mode in your BIOS from ACHI to IDE. Try exploring your BIOS.

Okay, FINALLY I was able to install the Wireless LAN for my 4310.
I tried everything you guys told me here, and here’s the only solution that worked for me:
Wireless Lan Driver 802bg Broadcom Ver.4.100.15.5V4.0
That should be the name of the compressed file you just downloaded. Extract it.
If you have had previous drivers installed from your previous attempts at making the WLAN work, just go to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager
Right-click on your WLAN’s icon and choose “Update driver”
Choose these options in order:
“No, not this time.”
“Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)”
“Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install.”
“Have disk…”
Browse to where you extracted the original contents of the compressed file.
Go inside these folders:
Wireless Lan Driver 802bg Broadcom Ver.4.100.15.5V4.0>
Setup BCM 4311 Setup 4.100.15.5-QMI_V4.0>
Driver Files>
32-bit>
choose the only file that will be showing, “bcmwl5″.
Click on “OK”.
A list will pop up, choose “Broadcom 802.11 Multiband Network Adapter”
After installation, your WLAN button on the notebook should start blinking and make you feel like it’s Christmas already.

Check your BIOS, is your hardisk listed inside? If yes, then you need to have AHCI driver in order to gain access to your HDD
