Today, I’m going to talk about something rather more related to photography. It’s called, perspective control. Let’s do a case study…
Here’s a poster displaying KFC’s latest offering, KFC Shrimp Stix Combo.
Very big shrimp!
As you can see from the poster advertising this particular dish, the shrimp looks very much larger. It looks as big as the drumstick behind it or maybe even larger. The fried shrimp in the most foreground appears to be half-cut so the actual size might be even longer!
Now, let’s take a look on the dish we personally ordered below. There’s two conclusions we can make by comparing the poster and the photo below.
It’s either the drumstick on the poster is ridiculously small or the shrimp given is (again, ridiculously) too small.
Is the poster lying then?
By shifting the perspective a little big to the top. The shrimp now looks a little big longer and not too shabby compared with the drumstick. But in actual fact, it’s still as short as it is.
KFC is god almighty
No one to be blamed here, it’s a photography technique cheat to manipulate the perspective and sizes on its subjects. The marketing department is just being a bit creative about presentation here, that’s all.
Just don’t freak out when you get your order of KFC Shrimp Stix Combo and looking at those pathetically small shrimps with your mouth wide open next time. It’s humiliating. I did it.

That’s me spinning around Gurney Drive on a lovely Sunday evening. Certainly, small camera has it’s advantage when we attempt to record video like this.

And a photo captured during the spin. The Image Stabiliser (IS) in the camera needs to work harder! But not too shabby for this little compact!
