Theme Switcher

By Hugo Lim + September 1st, 2008

I have installed yet another plug-in into my Wordpress system few days back. As I’m loading more and more things into my current (active) theme, things may look messy and unorganized. Therefore, it’s important that I prepare some alternatives themes to satisfy your surfing experience. After all, serving you well here is one of our company’s (Hugo Lim Pte Ltd) commitments.

You can switch themes by choosing from the Theme Switcher placed somewhere at the bottom of the side bar! Alternatives themes that I created are kept plain and I don’t plan to modify them heavily to keep things simple. The brightness theme will stay as my main active theme for now. Enjoy!

Wordpress stats missing

By Hugo Lim + August 31st, 2008

My Wordpress stats in my dashboard have gone idle not receiving hits for months. This has happened ever since I upgrade my wordpress to version 2.5 and above.

The solution is extremely easy. Just put

<?php wp_footer(); ?>

at somewhere in the end of your footer.php file. Just to make sure you get the picture right, you can put it just before the </body> tag.

<?php wp_footer(); ?>

</body>
</html>

Pinpoint your photo location with GeoPress

By Hugo Lim + August 22nd, 2008

I found one useful plugin that’s make blogging about photos more meaningful/informative lately. It’s called GeoPress.

We can now easily pinpoint the location where we took photo of with this plugin. For example, I’m now writing this blog entry from my office. And, here’s goes my current location.

You can use three kind of mapping services. Namely, Google, Yahoo or Microsoft. It’s quite handy and easy to use.

Now, you can satisfy your visitors better. Time to change, Digi Wordpress, always the smarter choice.

New plugin added

By Hugo Lim + August 15th, 2008

I have added TinyMCE into comment box! With that, I have added a series of clickable emoticon as well! Try it out!

I found a great post on plugins related to the comment box here! Here, you can find lots of useful plugin in relation to the comment form.

Before ending this post, I would like to take this opportunity to wish Wendy a safe journey ahead to KL. She will be doing her 3 months intership over there. Take care and all the best to you my dear I mean it

Dell XPS1330 GPU thermal issue

By Hugo Lim + August 9th, 2008

Bloody hell, my laptop is in the list. It’s just to express my opinion on this issue in this post. Many have ranted about their dying or dead XPS1330 all over the web, I’m doing that also too, now.

Browse over these links below and you will see people cursing Dell. It’s not Dell’s fault, it’s Nvidia’s manufacturing issue BUT Dell need to be responsible of this issue instead of giving temporary solution like releasing firmware that runs the fan all the time.

Quote from Dell’s blog entry

Our teams are committed to working with affected customers to resolve issues on a case-by-case basis.

ALL XPS1330 will die sooner later, Dell should RECALL ALL affected units in the world! The short-term solution will do solve this issue. It may fail sooner or later and nobody here want their laptop to fail after the warranty ends!

ShoutOutLounge.com I hit 8888

By Hugo Lim + August 5th, 2008

I hit 8888 posts count today!

Shout Out will be relocated to ShoutOutLounge.com, formerly hosted at PenangPenang.com (soon to be on 8 August 2008). It is a pet project of Lasker Saw. To date, there are hundreds of active members including me.

ShoutOut is not another comment box like shoutmix or cbox. It’s not just another personal comment box but something like MIRC where users can gather together and chat. It targets mainly on bloggers. You can put one in your blog just like mine. I wish to talk no more about this fantastic feature. Try it out and you will know how useful and interesting it is.

Shoutout, your daily office companion. Your life never be the same again!

hugolim wordpress tagcloud

By Hugo Lim + August 1st, 2008

Introducing another new feature added into my current Brightness theme! It’s not really a new feature but more like a enhanced tag cloud representation. By default, in this theme, we can only show the tag cloud on the sidebar in the widget selection.

I have custom made a new tag cloud, placed on top of the “Featured articles” which can be seen right after visitor points to the homepage. It also has fading and show/hide effect with a little help of javascript. Read the rest of this entry »

Free Wifi in Kuala Lumpur

By Hugo Lim + July 23rd, 2008

ON 13 May 2008:

Good news for KL folks! I will keep this post short and sweet.

2 years of free wifi service will be kicking in the end of the month as reported by local radio station. User will be limited to 512kbps and 500MB max upload/download limit per month. Its more than enough for people on the move to check their emails and surf some important sites. Users need not to pay premium rate to their telcos on GPRS/3G data rate anymore after this service starts kicking!

UPDATE 24 July 2008: On an interesting note, our neighboring country, Singapore, has Wireless@SG. It beats KL for few reasons below.

  • It offers FREE 3 years of wifi service to its users.
  • Existing users that utilize this service paying 0.12cents per min can now no longer pay and enjoy the service for free.
  • FREE VPN connectivity ensures secured surfing experience especially while you are surfing using public hotspot point.
  • There is no known bandwidth cap like WirelessKL as far as I can see.
