Second Pulau Tikus kayak trip

Group photo after returning from Pulau Tikus

Group photo after returning from Pulau Tikus

I would have forgotten when I last went to Pulau Tikus if there’s date printed on the photo. This time, I went with my company’s colleagues.

As usual, we booked for 3 hours for RM24. The journey to the island was quite a tough one as we were moving against the current. It took us a good 45 minutes to reach there but just a mere 27 minutes to get back from the island. I guess current does play a big role here.

Pulau Tikus

The sea was on low tide that morning. And for this, we were able to land on the sandy area which made life a lot easier compared to the last time I went there. We had to land on the bumpy rocky area the last time around. It was definitely much more dangerous than landing on sandy area. Thank god.

As the tide is still low that time, we were able to explore around the island on foot. Juggling through the rocky terrain is what we mostly encountered as what we can see from the map on the left.

We even met some people who took boat to the island to chill and fish.

Surely a good experience kayak-ing there sometimes. Oh ya, after ‘conquering’ the island for the second time. I would like to give some tips if you are planning a trip there anytime soon!

Tips

  • Sunblock. Yes, definitely needed.
  • Sunglasses. If you are not OK with the strong blinding sunlight.
  • Waterproof container. For you to keep important stuff.
  • Sweet/candy are recommended.
  • Drinking water. Critical.
  • Complete set of spare clothes.
  • Vinegar. In case of jellyfish attack! (You can borrow from the kayak rental office)
  • And lastly, you may want to go on low tide. You will enjoy much better there and a lot safer.

So this year, 2009, we are not set to miss 12 races live. No improvement from last year’s RTM broadcasting at all.

In 2006, 8TV showed all races LIVE!

In 2007, RTM2 delays most of the races (only 7 shown live) and furthermore, suspending the airing halfway if it clashes with their prime time news.

Watching the sports on Astro ESPN Star Sports does not much good as well, plenty of people complained about their NOT-knowledgeable commentator and ESPN does NOTHING to fix this situation (plenty of people from LowYat.net forum sent in email to complain too, me included). Never mind about their less-than-satisfied commentary but they even shows MORE ADS than free channel. This is simply NOT acceptable as we are paying money for the channel!

In 2008, it continues broadcasting again with no improvement! Now in 2009, we are not moving forward, as expected.

What’s with this country that host one of the F1 races? What’s with this country’s petroleum company that throws million of ringgit in F1 team partnership? What’s with this country anyway?

Penang Starwalk 2008

HugoLim walking

Yes I did it again! One of the most important in the Penang calendar besides Penang Bridge Marathon is Star Walk. It’s much more relaxing than the bridge run as we need to only walk. This year, it took place at PISA. It’s basically a sub 2 hours stroll around the surrounding area including Sunshine Square, industrial area, snake temple, airport and the sports complex itself spanning total distance of 10km.

Along the way, I can see lots of interesting things from airplane to ‘graffiti’ work to the enormous crowd….

F1 Italy 2008 review

Magnificent! Superb! Youngest driver Sebastian Vettel has just became the youngest driver to win a grandprix. He was 12.5s away from second place man, Kovalainen. One year younger than record holder Alonso! :-)

He has became the youngest driver to get a pole yesterday as well! Away from the dead boring European race at Valencia, Nurburing is so far the best enjoyable race ever but no exception for this Italian grandprix as well!

Starting from pole, Vettel kept up the performance all the way, driving superbly and brought the car to the chequered flag safely and at first place! :D:D

Yes, Ferrari won the home grandprix, not the Ferrari we always see but Ferrari’s customer car, Toro Rosso!

On the other hand, Massa reduced the point gap to 1 behind Hamilton. They finished at sixth and seventh respectively. Kimi was not doing great throughout the race lacking grip finished only ninth, just a place away from point.

Vettel finishes ahead of all the big names Massa, Kimi, Hamilton. How cool is that??

Yes, Peter Sauber is great at discovering new talent!!

ShoutOut outing: Gua Tempurung

IMG_5199

Gua Tempurung, Perak

Gua Tempurung located just about 10km away from the Gopeng toll exit. Its very easy to get there out the highway exit as there is clear indication of signboard leading to it.

There are many packages available to visit the cave. Amongst all, Grand Tour is the one that covers the most part of it which will costs you a good RM 22. You will be assigned to a guide who will lead you along the 4 hours plus journey.

Important Tips on taking the tour:

  • Wear dark colored clothes, you don’t want to expose your sexy body figure (girls) and you do not want the pain of washing mud covered light colored clothes. Of course, bring spare clothes to change after the drill.
  • Bring your own soap/shampoo if you do not intend to buy from the “bath house”. There’s a paid toilet/shower room facility near the ticketing counter.
  • Torchlight is a must. You can still rely on others but its highly recommended that you bring your own.
  • Wear 3 quarters pant or longer to cover your knee. You will have hard time crawling on low ceiling places later on and you don’t want the pain on your knee pressing on the rocky surface.
  • As you need to crawl and soak yourself wet at some part of the journey, it’s ideal to travel light and bring water-proof plastic bag/container to keep your precious stuff like wallet and cameras. If you are planning to bring a DSLR, please be extra careful due to its size and weight. (And always remember, DSLR are not waterproof not really water resistant unless you got yourself a waterproof casing.)
  • Bring some sweets if not some buns, just in case.
  • Oh yes, drinking water is essential!
