DSLR/ Camera shutter lifespan

08 Sep

I just found a good website on checking your camera shutter lifespan. For your information, your camera will not last forever and will eventually die!

Check your shutter lifespan expectancy at this website.

In there, select your camera model and simply look at the “Survival estimation” graph. For example, this is the graph for my Canon 400D.

The survival rate for mine is 87.9% for 23k shots.

Checking your Canon DSLR shutter count

Canon does not provide you the shutter directly. You need to do some calculation. It is easy.

Check your last image file sequence. For example, IMG_3300.jpg. And, it resides in folder named 902CANON. Ignore the ’9′ in the front of the folder. Take the remaining number and multiply it with a thousand.

The total shutter count would be 20000 + 3300 = 23300

Buying first DSLR

I spent hours discussing with XW giving him opinions in buying his first DSLR today. Here’s some complication that may be useful for you! :)

Sony is hot now!

The big three? Okay, maybe I should say The Big Two. Canon and Nikon.

The next best possible player that bite up the juicy DSLR market would be Sony. Sony is new young aggressive player in the emerging hot DSLR competition lately. Sony is being aggressive in pumping features into its body like Image Stabilization built-in to their bodies.

If you ask me, well it depends on what level you are in now. Too much of variables, read on!
